The Keurbooms & Bitou River Cruise turns a quiet boat ride into three overlapping wildlife encounters: birders drift past over 300 recorded species — turacos, fish eagles, kingfishers, Narina trogons — in a setting so undisturbed no hide or dawn slog is needed; beneath the surface, the estuary reveals itself as a nursery for critically endangered common eagle rays alongside smooth hound sharks, duckbill rays, leervis, and grunter, a hidden marine world most Plettenberg Bay visitors never glimpse; and upriver, the boat slips into ancient Afromontane forest — yellowwoods, stinkwoods, tannin-dark water, otters, vervet monkeys, and bushbuck — one of the last intact stretches where indigenous forest still meets open water on the Garden Route.
